The
Alisse members: Sébastien Flémal, Benoît
Angelot and François Milet,
define their music as alt-pop-wave music...So let's say that it's like The
Cure meeting Placebo and Weezer...A strange mix that gives powerful songs
with easy to remember choruses. Started
in 1998, by bass player, Sébastien
Flémal and drummer, Benoit Angelot, Alisse only became the power-trio
that it is known today in 2000. The band, after many changes (two singers,
two guitarists), asked François Milet to play guitar and sing for Alisse.
He accepted... With one condition, that Benoit and Sebastien become his backing
band for his other project, Pillow. François quickly learned all the
songs and changed the lyrics and vocal melodies to better suit the bands direction
before their first gig with him as singer at the D'Jote rock festival, in Nivelles,
in September 2000. One
year later, they released their first album "One Sense Logic".
Recorded
in August/September 2001 at studio "Jean-Jean", in Nivelles (Belgium).
Some
of the songs from this record got played on Must FM's "Planet Indie"
show and on Radio Panik. They did some interviews, received record reviews
in zines
and webzines, gave a bunch of shows and started work on their second album,
the first written entirely by the new set up of the band. "Cariboo's Last Dance" took
a while to finish. Alisse tried out many
different ideas and played many shows but they eventually decided to
record 11 of their new songs with the same recording engineer they used for
their first album. This time, the album would be recorded in a professional
studio and the basis (drums/guitars/bass) would be all recorded live, in order
to keep the punchy aspect and the roughness of Alisse's live performances. The new album is filled with more rage but, also features additional
melodies and more effort on the backing vocals. The styles of the songs range
from
new wave to alternative and from indie-pop to emo-core. It is really more
mature sounding and gives a good view of what the band is at this time.
